Because casinos handle cash-sensitive transactions, they are frequently the focus of various criminal activities. Some may try to commit various frauds, while others may attempt to rob these establishments. For this reason, a lot of brick-and-mortar casinos make significant investments in security staff, surveillance, and in some cases, artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.
Earlier this week, a brazen robbery at Porto Cupe-Coy casino in Sint Maarten, a Caribbean island that is a constituent country of the Netherlands, resulted in the theft of an undisclosed amount of money. The incident, according to the Police Force of Sint Maarten, Korps Politie Sint Maarten (KPSM), dates to the early hours of Wednesday, January 24, 2024.
According to law enforcement, an investigation into the armed robbery is ongoing. In order to identify, capture, and punish the three people involved in the illegal activity, police are working nonstop to gather additional evidence. KPSM has confirmed that witnesses or anyone with information about the robbery can report it anonymously by calling its hotline or sending a message on Facebook.

Investigation into the Robbery Continues
Law enforcement described the incident by confirming that on January 24 at around 1:30 AM, they received multiple reports about an ongoing armed robbery. Unsurprisingly, they responded right away by sending a number of detectives, patrols, and forensics teams to the local casino.
A preliminary investigation of the case identified three culprits who were dressed in dark clothing and masks. The robbers threatened the security guards at the casino’s entrance before storming inside and robbing it; they did not confirm the length of time the robbery took. After the robbers were finished, they fled the casino on foot. KPSM believes that the three robbery suspects are heading toward the French side of the island. Police have not confirmed whether anyone was involved.
