After the triumph of one lucky Michigan Lottery player who hit the staggering $842 million Powerball jackpot at the start of the year, the grand prize from the popular game continues to increase. With nobody guessing correctly all winning numbers from Wednesday’s drawing, the grand prize from Powerball is now expected to surpass half a billion dollars for the upcoming drawing.
Powerball drawings are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. With the next drawing scheduled for Saturday, March 9, 2024, players are going to have a chance of securing a mind-blowing $521 million jackpot. Still, winning the grand prize is contingent on a lucky player guessing all winning numbers with the odds of that happening being 1 in 292.2 million.
The aforementioned $521 million grand prize represents annual installments for a period of 30 years and comes before tax. On the other hand, if a lucky lottery player wants to take home a lump cash sum from the Powerball, that’s also possible. In case a player guesses correctly all winning numbers from the upcoming drawing and selects a cash option they will be pocketing nearly $250 million, before taxes.
While half a billion dollars is undoubtedly a mind-blowing jackpot, it is still far below the biggest jackpots from Powerball. The latest grand prize that dropped in January, $842.4 million was the fifth largest jackpot from the popular game. On the other hand, the 10th largest Powerball jackpot dropped back in October 2021, a staggering $699.8 million.
The largest-ever jackpot from the game was won on November 7, 2022. At the time, a lucky player secured a staggering $2.04 billion.
The Biggest Prizes from the Latest Drawing Were Six-Figures
As noted, Wednesday’s Powerball drawing saw no one guess correctly all winning numbers to secure the grand prize. Surprisingly, there was no one who secured a seven-figure prize. However, four lucky winners took home a $100,000 Power Play prize each and 10 players took home $50,000 each for guessing correctly four white balls along with the red Powerball.
Focusing on lower-tier prizes, 329 Powerball players guessed correctly four white balls, taking home $100 each, while 106 collected a $200 Power Play prize each. Some 922 players won $100 each for guessing correctly three white balls along with the red Powerball, while 302 went home with a $200 Power Play prize each.
