A lucky lottery player has won a $1 million Powerball prize after matching five of the six numbers for the drawing on March 9. As reported by the Florida Lottery, the customer matched all five white balls, narrowly missing the huge Powerball jackpot by not picking the correct Powerball number.
For reference, the winning white balls for the drawing were 30, 36, 49, 52 and 62. The Powerball number, on the other hand, was 16. One more matched number would have netted the player some $511 million.
While the winning customer couldn’t quite match all numbers, they will still bring a prize of $1 million back home. According to local reports, the winning ticket was sold at City Food Mart in Haines City; a town situated 40 miles away from Orlando.
Local journalists were unable to confirm whether the winner had claimed the prize yet. In any case, they will have six months to receive their prize, as per the rules of the Florida Lottery.
The Jackpot Nears $600M
The winning numbers for the March 11 drawing, on the other hand, were 1, 3, 7, 16, 66 and 5. However, no one succeeded in claiming the coveted prize.
As a result, the estimated Powerball jackpot is currently standing at a whopping $559 million. The next drawing is scheduled for March 13, and is set to provide players with another shot at winning a life-changing prize. The cash value of the Powerball jackpot is currently $273.3 million.
These figures mean that the current Powerball jackpot is steadily nearing the size of the $842 million Powerball jackpot that was handed out in January. For reference, that money was won by a fortunate player from Michigan who purchased the ticket at the Food Castle in Grand Blanc.
The January jackpot was the fifth-largest jackpot in Powerball history and the tenth-largest jackpot in the history of the US lottery.
