A single spin paid off in a huge way for one lucky casino visitor in Atlantic City. A Union County, New Jersey woman turned a $12.50 wager into a staggering $178,662 payday while playing at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, casino officials confirmed in a Wednesday announcement.
The massive score happened shortly after midnight when the player took a shot on Aristocrat’s fan-favorite Dollar Storm: Egyptian Jewels slot machine.
The Secrets Behind the Dollar Storm: Egyptian Jewels Slot
Aristocrat Gaming’s Dollar Storm series—and specifically the Egyptian Jewels title—has built a massive following across casino floors nationwide for its high-energy features and rapid-hitting progressive jackpots.
Building on the legendary legacy of Aristocrat’s Lightning Link and Dragon Link franchises, the Dollar Storm line introduced an upgraded progressive dynamic:
-
Hold & Spin Action: The core engine relies on the iconic Hold & Spin feature, where landing cash-on-reels coin symbols locks them in place, awarding three free respins to fill the rest of the grid.
-
Free Games with Multipliers: In Egyptian Jewels, triggering the Free Games round unlocks wild multipliers (up to 2x) that significantly boost line-win payouts alongside Pharaohs, Pyramids, and Queen Cleopatra symbols.
-
The Super Grand Jackpot Chance: What sets Dollar Storm apart from earlier link games is the chance at the Super Grand Jackpot. Collecting all coins during the Hold & Spin feature unlocks a final chance wheel, awarding massive multi-site progressive jackpots or huge flat-rate cash prizes.
Because Dollar Storm offers multi-denomination options (ranging from 1-cent up to $1, $2, and $5 options), players can adjust their bet sizes according to their bankroll. The New Jersey winner’s chosen $12.50 bet hit the sweet spot for high-limit link play, triggering a mid-five-figure payout that marks another huge win on the Atlantic City boardwalk.
A Streak of Big Hits at Hard Rock Atlantic City
This $178k hit is just the latest in a wave of major jackpots handed out at Hard Rock Atlantic City, which boasts a sprawling gaming floor featuring over 2,200 slot machines and top-tier high-limit slots rooms.
Whether playing progressives like Dollar Storm, Lightning Link, or Wheel of Fortune, the casino continues to be a hotspot for players looking to turn modest bets into six-figure handpays.
