A lucky player from the Philippines has won a life-changing PHP 33.5 million (approximately $572,000) jackpot playing the Mega Lotto. According to the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), the person succeeded in matching all six winning numbers correctly.
The Wednesday night’s Mega Lotto 6/45 drawing saw 7, 40, 25, 8, 30 and 39 as the winning numbers. Luckily for the player in question, they had matched all of the numbers, netting them a jackpot prize of PHP 33,595,070.80.
According to the PCSO, the player comes from the Rizal province. Official data shows that the ticket was purchased from an outlet at Sta. Cruz, Emilio in Centella Homes Subdivision, Rodriguez, Rizal.
As of the time of this writing, the winner has yet to come forward and claim their prize. Under the Philippines’ Republic Act 1169, winners have a year from the date of the drawing to claim their winnings.
Jackpot prizes can be claimed at the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office’s HQ on Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City. Additionally, lotto winnings of over PHP 10,000 ($170) are taxed at 20% of the sum in accordance with the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion law.
While only one player succeeded in matching all six numbers correctly, 23 others matched five of the six winning numbers. As a result, each of them will get a prize of PHP 32,000 (approximately $550).
In the meantime, 1,097 players matched four of the numbers and are eligible to claim a prize of PHP 1,000 ($17). Lastly, everyone who guessed at least three numbers correctly can claim PHP 30 ($0.55).
6/45 Mega Lotto prizes are drawn every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. A part of the lottery proceeds go to support a variety of initiatives and charities.
US Players Continue to Win Big
Elsewhere, US players continue to win big. For example, one mysterious Colusa Casino Resort visitor just won a jackpot of nearly $3 million after visiting Colusa Casino Resort, a premium gaming venue in California.
A few days earlier, a bingo player won a $134,000 jackpot at the Suncoast Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Speaking of US jackpots, the Montana Lottery Commission proposed significant changes to Mega Millions. The proposed redesign of the game would come into effect in 2025 and would make the game more fun by improving the odds of winning and offering higher prize amounts. However, these changes would require the commission to increase the ticket price from $2 to $5.
