A lovely date night for a couple from Riverview, Florida, turned into a horror movie when masked thugs attacked, shot, and robbed them. The couple went out for a bite and then stopped at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
The young man joked around that he needed to win some money to make up for dinner. To his surprise, he won a $3,000 jackpot. Together with his girlfriend, the man left the Hard Rock Casino and drove back to their home in Riverview.
Once home, the couple’s car was surrounded by two armed thugs with masks. The woman, identified by the initials K.C., tried to run to the door of the house while her boyfriend, identified with the initials V.D., was attacked by the armed culprits.
The chilling armed robbery was captured on a ring doorbell video. The woman can be seen running from the car while a couple of gunshots are heard in the background. Afterward, the man tries to flee toward the house, but he is followed by the armed thugs.
The masked and armed men shot the male victim several times. V.D. was shot in one of his legs with the bullet exiting but he also sustained injuries to his other leg.
While his girlfriend was able to enter the house, the armed men then surrounded the male victim, and one can be seen covering the doorbell camera. Shortly after, a neighbor, who was alerted by the shots, walks out which causes the robbers to flee the scene.
The Victim Created a Fundraiser amid Piling Bills and Inability to Work
According to Fox 13, the two robbers snatched jewelry and a watch, as well as the woman’s purse. It is unclear if the armed thugs took the jackpot win too. In an interview for the media outlet, the male victim said that he was saved thanks to the actions of police deputies.
Upon arrival, law enforcement used a tourniquet on the man’s leg to prevent him from bleeding out. “I lost so much blood, if they didn’t do that, I wouldn’t have made it,” said the victim. The man, who is self-employed, is in tough condition, despite the incident happening at the beginning of the month.
Currently, the victim is unable to walk and is in constant pain. While he survived the cold-blooded crime, it may be six months before the man will be able to walk again. In light of this and the expensive medical bills, the young man created a fundraiser on GoFundMe.
Two Suspects Arrested, One Remains at Large
A police investigation led to the arrest of two men suspected of being involved in the armed robbery. A third man is suspected of being involved as well.
The detainees, identified with the initials M.J. and T.W., followed the couple for hours before the attack, investigators claim. While the culprits targeted the couple at the casino and waited for them for two hours, they later followed them to their home where they completed the violent attack.
M.J. is currently facing multiple charges, including first degree murder. Similarly, the second culprit is also on the hook for a long list of charges.
Currently, the penalty for first-degree attempted murder in Florida includes a fine of up to $10,000 as well as life imprisonment with or without the possibility of parole.
