More than $230 million was up for grabs from Mega Millions on the game’s latest drawing last week. To be exact, the jackpot was an estimated $233 million, while its cash option was also a life-changing sum, $108.8 million.
While many lottery players across the country tried their luck, nobody was able to match all winning numbers on the latest draw to win the jackpot prize. Still, a couple of players scored million-dollar wins after matching five winning numbers.
Two Players Missed the Grand Prize by One Number
Friday’s Mega Millions drawing saw winning numbers 8, 20, 48, 58 and 60, along with the important gold Mega Ball number 7 drawn. The Megaplier on Friday was 3x, enabling lottery players with non-jackpot prizes to multiply their prize, if they have paid extra for the feature.
The jackpot survived but two incredibly lucky players scored life-changing tier-two prizes. That’s the case for a Virginia and a Washington player. Each of the fortunate winners matched five winning numbers and only missed the gold Mega Ball number.
On the bright side, the player in Washington won $1 million for matching all winning white balls drawn on Friday. Unlike the ticket holder in Washington, the player from Virginia paid extra for the Mega Millions Megaplier option. As a result, they scored a $3 million prize instead of the standard $1 million for matching five winning numbers.
More than a dozen players won tier-three prizes for matching four white balls along with the gold Mega Ball on Friday. A total of five lucky winners saw the standard $10,000 prize multiply by 3x to $30,000 each, while the remaining players collected the standard prize of $10,000.
The Jackpot Hits $256M for Next Drawing
The chances of winning the jackpot from Mega Millions are always the same, regardless of how many players purchase tickets. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 302.5 million, while the overall odds of winning any prize from the popular lottery game are 1 in 24.
After the jackpot survived the latest drawing, it has now grown to the mind-boggling sum of $256 million. As is usual for top prizes, the Mega Millions jackpot also offers a cash option which is a one-time lump cash sum of $119.5 million.
The popular lottery game’s next drawing is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 11 PM ET. Mega Millions drawings take place on Tuesdays and Fridays every week at exactly 11 PM ET.
