An elderly woman from Grand Traverse County, Michigan, was pleasantly surprised by an unexpected windfall after winning a jackpot of more than $200,000. The Michigan Lottery confirmed the win of the 70-year-old lottery player who earned entry into the BIG CA$H second chance jackpot drawing after playing eligible games via the Lottery’s official website.
The Lottery Winner Plans to Make Home Improvements
The fortunate woman, whose name was not disclosed, won the BIG CA$H second chance $205,831 jackpot on August 13. However, she only recently visited the Lottery headquarters to claim her hefty win. When lottery officials asked the lucky winner what she intended to do with the windfall, she replied that she intended to renovate and improve her home.
A range of online instant games offered by the Michigan Lottery grant a chance for entry in a progressive jackpot drawing. Players earn one entry for every $0.50 wagered via eligible games during a specific period. Once the period ends, the Lottery selects a random winner out of all participants for the month.
With the winner selected, the entry period resets and starts to accept entries for the new drawing. After the reset, the progressive jackpot starts from $5,000. Considering that winners for July and August have already been selected, the next drawing for the BIG CA$H second chance jackpot is scheduled for September 17.
Second Chance Jackpot Sounded like Something Too Good to Be True
Once the Michigan Lottery notified the Grand Traverse County woman of her second chance jackpot prize via email, she became quite suspicious. Thinking it was too good to be true, the woman didn’t dismiss the celebratory email about the BIG CA$H jackpot win but rather decided to investigate further.
“I got an email that said I was the winner of the July BIG CA$H jackpot prize, but it seemed too good to be true,“
explained the lucky lottery winner
The 70-year-old woman admitted to comparing the name of the game to the games offered by the Lottery online. She also compared the number and e-mail she received the message from with the Lottery’s official e-mail and phone.
Then, the 70-year-old woman contacted the Lottery but before cheering for her win, she asked many questions to ensure the win was legitimate. In the end, she was pleasantly surprised that the win was in fact real and not an online scam.
