According to the Texas Lottery Commission, Texas is the third-largest lottery market in the US. The state spent more over $8 billion on lottery tickets in 2022.
The Texas Lottery was established in 1992 and has since paid out $78.5 billion in cash to lottery participants and produced $36.1 billion in state income.
Only a small percentage of lottery tickets are purchased online in the United States, where Texas is the third-largest lottery market, where more than half of Americans annually purchase tickets. The debut of Jackpot.com was announced at a time when numerous lobbyists are attempting to increase gambling in Texas.
Dan Patrick, the Republican lieutenant governor of Texas, continues to have considerable political sway over the possibility of gaming legislation being approved by the chamber’s Republican majority.
A bill to enable four destination casinos and permit sports betting in the state was submitted by state senator Carol Alvarado, a Democrat from Houston, in November.
Under her legislation, there would also be restricted expanded gaming at racinos and tribal casinos.
One day prior to Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing, which has an estimated jackpot of $1.1 billion, Huge Jackpots Jackpot.com made their Texas announcement.
The third-largest sum in Mega Million’s history is that amount. The jackpot is also the fifth-largest in US history.
Only five other occasions in which a US lottery jackpot exceeded $1 billion. Since Mega Millions and its main multistate rival, Powerball, increased the odds of winning the jackpots, each of those five jackpots has been won.
In November, a single ticket purchased in California won the $2.04 billion Powerball prize.
