Video Poker Or Slot Machines – Which One Wins?

May 31, 2017 By The Mystic Gambler 2 Comments

video poker or slot machinesWhen you walk into a casino, you want to have fun and you want to have an opportunity to win some money. There’s a lot of games to choose from these days including many with dazzling graphics and sound effects. Those may be fun to play but they don’t necessarily offer you the best opportunities to win. One question that you might have is whether to play video poker or slot machines?

With money still a bit tight, many players are investigating  how to stretch their casino dollars. That is,they want to play the games that will give them the best value. And (believe it or not) there is value to be found in a casino. You just have to know what to look for.

You might have noticed that there are more slot machines than anything else on the casino floor. And you’ve probably heard them referred to as “one arm bandits”. Their reputation is well deserved. Slot machines are by far the most profitable space on the casino floor. That may be why today’s more knowledgeable players are ditching them and turning to video poker for their gambling fun and winnings.

While luck is still part of the game of video poker, there’s an element of skill that’s involved. That’s an important thing to remeber when you’re considering playing video poker or slot machines.Similar to a blackjack  players, video poker players can learn a strategy that will give them better returns than what they would get from a slot machine. And that means that they can play longer for less money and have more chances to win a big jackpot. Now that’s value.

What kind of ‘value’ are we talking about?

Consider that the typical slot machine might return about 85% of what you toss in it. That means that it’s costing you about 15% to play. Oh you might win a jackpot, but over the long term you’re going to lose at that rate. Think of it as a sort of cover charge for having a good time. But a strategic video poker player can get 99% percent of their money returned. So, in effect, video poker players only pay a 1% ‘cover charge’ compared to  the 15% for slot players.

With that in mind, if you are a slot player and looking to extend your play and winning opportunities, maybe you should consider switching to video poker. You’ll be amazed at the rewards that the decision will bring to you.

You will put your base numbers into the appropriate boxes (the word “Base” is next to the boxes). Then you copy each base number to the the boxes below it.
