North Carolina engineering student, walked away with a $2,000,000 Powerball prize
A minor inconvenience at the gas pump turned into the ultimate million-dollar windfall for a North Carolina college student!
Bram Dunehew, an engineering student, walked away with a $2,000,000 Powerball prize after a malfunctioning receipt printer at a local gas station forced him inside to buy a ticket he never originally planned on purchasing.
The Malfunction That Led to a $2,000,000 Win
Dunehew stopped at the Sam’s Mart on NC 49 in Harrisburg/Concord, North Carolina, to fill up his tank. When the pump failed to print his fuel receipt, he had to walk inside to get one from the clerk.
While standing at the counter, he decided to grab a $3 Powerball ticket with Power Play for the special Halloween drawing. That last-second decision proved life-changing: his ticket matched all five white numbers drawn to win the base $1 million prize, which was instantly doubled to $2 million thanks to the 2x Power Play multiplier he added to his ticket!
“It’s crazy because I never would have even bought that ticket if the receipt printed outside,” Dunehew admitted. “It’s absolutely preposterous. I fell over when I saw it. I think Halloween’s now my favorite holiday. Trick-or-treating was fun as a kid, but this is insane.”
Student Takes Lump Sum Payout to Buy Dad a Cadillac
Dunehew officially claimed his North Carolina Powerball prize at the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters on Monday, November 2.
After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home a single lump-sum payout of $1,440,201.
When asked about his immediate plans for the multi-million-dollar windfall, the engineering student had one clear priority high on his list: buying his dad a brand-new Cadillac.
